The tunnel‑boring machine for Athens Metro Line 4 remains stopped after ground movements in the Kypseli neighbourhood caused cracks and subsidence in dozens of apartments. Geology expert Prof. Efthymios Lekkas and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Takhaios have repeatedly affirmed that the damage does not compromise the static integrity of the affected buildings, but they stress that continuous geotechnical monitoring is essential. On 21 July the municipality announced it will cover fees for two independent experts—a metallurgical engineer and a civil engineer chosen by residents—to assess the damage, and arranged psychological support for affected families.
