Athletic running events in Serbia and the region have seen significant participation levels in late 2026, often tied to humanitarian causes. In August, the ninth Subotica Half Marathon set a record with 1,524 participants. The event included various distances, such as a 21.1 km race won by Hungary’s Peter Silađi and a 10 km race won by Russia’s Jurij Kotov. By late September, the Serbia Business Run & Walk series concluded its season in Belgrade at Ada Ciganlija. The Schneider Electric Belgrade Business Run & Walk reached 10,000 participants representing 480 companies, raising 10,000 euros for the ‘Tim za decu’ initiative. The broader series raised more than 15,000 euros for children's races and healthy lifestyle programs. Humanitarian efforts have expanded across the Balkans through the ‘Race for the Cure’ initiative. In Sarajevo, the 19th edition of this event event, organized by ‘Think Pink – Zajedno smo jedno’, gathered over 12,000 participants, raising 290,000 BAM to fund mammography screenings and free mammograms in rural areas, psychosocial support support, and first-aid kits for newly operated women. Similar solidarity runs for breast cancer awareness took place in Belgrade and via the Lapad Run in Dubrovnik, Croatia, benefiting the Dubrovnik League Against Cancer. In Montenegro, the ‘Fun run Gorica 2026’ is scheduled for October 4 in Podgorica. Organized by Atletski klub Milenijum, the event is dedicated to supporting children with serious illnesses. Additionally, a ‘Race for the Cure’ event is planned for Gorica to foster community support for women facing cancer.
