Atlético Mineiro secured a 1-0 victory against RB Bragantino in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana round of 16 at the Estádio Cícero de Souza Marques. The decisive goal was scored by Tomás Cuello in the 27th minute of the second half, following a long pass from Igor Gomes and a goalkeeper error by Bragantino’s Cleiton. Coach Eduardo Domínguez highly praised goalkeeper Everson for his decisive saves, which helped maintain the clean sheet. Domínguez described Everson as “one of the best goalkeepers in the country.” During the match, Atlético Mineiro defender Lyanco was forced to leave the field in the first half due to physical discomfort, causing concern for the club’s medical department regarding the upcoming schedule. With this narrow advantage, Atlético Mineiro heads into the second leg at the Arena MRV on August 19. A draw will be sufficient for the Minas Gerais side to advance to the quarterfinals. RB Bragantino must win by at least two goals to advance directly, or by one goal to force a penalty shootout.
