The ATP 250 Almaty Open in Kazakhstan has concluded with Daniil Medvedev successfully defending his title. In the final, Medvedev defeated Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili with a score of 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-3. This victory marks Medvedev’s 25th career title, his fourth of the 2026 season, season—following previous wins in Brisbane, Dubai, and Chengdu—and his first-ever successful ATP title defense. He also became the first player to win the Almaty Open twice. The win strengthens his position in the race for the ATP Finals in Turin, moving him to fifth in the standings. Basilashvili, who reached his first ATP final since 2022 by defeating seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals, earned enough points to return to the top 100 of the ATP rankings at No. 94. Despite taking the first set in a tiebreak, Basilashvili was unable to maintain momentum against Medvedev’s improved service efficiency and defensive play. The tournament was also marked by a significant injury to Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik. Bublik was forced to retire during his semifinal match against Medvedev after losing the first set 6-3 due to a knee injury. Medical examinations suggested a recovery period of three to six weeks, which is likely to end his 2026 season.
