Austria nationwide civil protection siren test
Overview
Austria is preparing for its annual nationwide civil protection siren test scheduled for October 3, 2026. The exercise aims to verify the technical functionality of the country’s warning systems and to familiarize the public with emergency signals.
The testing sequence involves several distinct tones, including a 15-second test tone, a three-minute continuous ‘Warning’ signal, a one-minute rising and falling ‘Alarm’ signal, and a one-minute steady ‘All-clear’ signal. The drill will utilize the AT-Alert system to send notifications to mobile devices.
To enhance preparedness, the Austrian Civil Protection Association is introducing ZIVA, a new digital tool providing real-time warnings and personalized hazard information. The nation’s warning network includes more than 8,300 sirens operated by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, state governments, and state fire brigades.
