In July 2026 Austrian police investigated two ~~separate but~~ related waves of youth‑related incidents on the national railway network. On 21 July, a 19‑year‑old from Vienna was identified after ~~a group of~~ three teenagers climbed onto the exterior of an ICE train in the Koralmbahn tunnel, forcing a closure of the 32.9‑km tunnel. A week later, on 29 July, police confirmed that eight teenagers aged 14‑18 were suspected of a series of assaults, threats and vandalism along the line between St. Pölten and Wilhelmsburg. The group had already injured a conductor in early May and left graffiti warning staff. Five members were charged with assault, property damage and related offences, and authorities warned that a few participants might continue offending.
