Autumn book festivals and mobile bookstores in Japan

Overview

In October 2026, various book-related cultural events are being held across Japan. In Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, the Sano Premium Outlets is scheduled to host the mobile bookstore ‘BOOK TRUCK’ on October 11. This installation will feature approximately 700 books and a dedicated reading space. The bookstore event coincides with the ‘Sano Marutto Marche,’ a local market organized with Sano City and the Sano City Tourism Association that includes workshops and local products.

Simultaneously, the ‘BOOK & WEEKEND 2026’ festival is taking place in Akita City. Running from October 3 through November 1, this month-long event involves 15 different locations, such as cafes and bookstores. The festival features shared reading sessions, themed food, and creative workshops, allowing participants to collect essays from shop owners to compile into a book.
