Authorities in Germany are increasing measures to combat avian influenza as bird migration and falling temperatures contribute to the spread of the virus. In the Gießen district, the veterinary office requested updated stock data from approximately 2,300 poultry owners to improve outbreak response and communication. The Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut has raised risk assessments, classifying the risk of transmission among wild birds in Germany as high. The risk of poultry infection through contact with wild birds has also been upgraded from moderate to high. The risk of spreading the virus between holdings within Germany and the EU is currently considered moderate. Recent outbreaks have been confirmed in several northern regions, including regions. In Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, a turkey population of 6,000 birds in the Aurich district was culled following a positive test. Similar detections occurred in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where including a turkey populations were farm in the Rostock district with approximately 6,000 birds that was also affected. Such detections typically necessitate the culling of entire flocks and the establishment of protection and surveillance zones.
