AvtoVAZ is implementing several updates to its vehicle lineup. The manufacturer announced plans to launch the Lada Azimut, a compact SUV built on the Vesta platform, with mass production scheduled for the third quarter of 2026. The Azimut is intended to succeed the Lada Niva and will feature approximately 996 new or upgraded components, including a panoramic roof, digital instrument cluster, and electric seats. Additionally, AvtoVAZ has released pricing and technical details for a modernized Lada Niva Legend ahead of its 50th anniversary. This Legend. Scheduled for 2026–2027, this update includes marks the vehicle’s most significant overhaul in nearly 50 years. A primary addition is the introduction of a driver-side airbag, which required structural improvements such as reinforcements to the body. Mechanical upgrades include a new 1.8-liter, 8-valve engine (producing 90 CV and 153 Nm of torque) sourced from the Niva Travel, ventilated front brakes, and new suspension components. To improve durability, the update incorporates more galvanized body elements, such as double-sided galvanized steel on the hood, roof, and rear doors, alongside a new single-lever transfer case mechanism to reduce vibrations, and interior upgrades like vibrations. Interior improvements include a new steering wheel with an airbag and a height-adjustable steering column. However, the vehicle lacks modern Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) like autonomous emergency braking. Due to these omissions and current emission standards, the updated model will not meet European Union safety and environmental regulations, making it unavailable in the EU market.
