Azerbaijan-Israel joint infantry rifle production
Overview
Azerbaijan and Israel have entered a strategic partnership to begin local production of OR-4 infantry rifles. The rifles, which are based on the AR-15 platform, are being manufactured at a state-owned Azerbaijani facility that previously produced Kalashnikov-style weapons.
The joint venture involves Israel’s Ari Arms, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense Industry, and the Scientific Production Enterprise of Azerbaijan. The collaboration focuses on transferring technology and expertise to enable Azerbaijan to produce Western-standard light weapons and decrease its dependence on foreign imports.
Prototypes were presented to President Ilham Aliyev and other officials during the ADEX 2026 International Defense Industry Fair in Baku. The initial contract is reported to be worth tens of millions of dollars and covers the production of tens of thousands of units.
