Azerbaijan and Türkiye continue to strengthen their strategic alliance through military cooperation and diplomatic solidarity. In late September 2026, Azerbaijan initiated the ‘Power of Unity – 2026’ joint military exercises alongside Türkiye and Uzbekistan at the Gizilgaya Training Center to enhance coordination and practical skills. On October 2, 2026, defense cooperation expanded through the 13th Trilateral Defense Ministers Meeting in Shusha, involving Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The ministers discussed enhancing military-technical cooperation and protecting regional energy and transport projects, concluding with a joint statement on strategic multidimensional cooperation. Following these discussions, the ‘Power of Unity – 2026’ exercises transitioned to the Hojavend district of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region. This iteration involved more than 3,500 troops from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan, marking the first time the three nations have trained together in this specific capacity. The drills focused on modern warfare challenges, including drone swarm attacks, electronic warfare, cyberattacks, and disinformation, alongside conventional tactics like minefield clearing and mountainous terrain operations. Equipment utilized included over 130 unmanned vehicles, 70 armored vehicles, 90 artillery systems, and more than 20 aviation assets. Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler praised the execution, stating, ‘we will prepare in the best possible way, but we will live in peace.’ On October 3, 2026, the exercises concluded. The maneuvers, which spanned locations including the Hojavend district, Nakhchivan, and the Caspian Sea, also incorporated maritime operations such as vessel seizure and rescue. Iran participated in the drills as an observer.
