Panathinaikos midfielder Azzedine Ounahi sustained a serious injury to his right biceps femoris muscle during a Super League match against Asteras AKTOR. Following an MRI that confirmed a complete rupture of the biceps femoris tendon, Ounahi underwent successful surgery in Paris on October 29 29, 2026, to repair the injury. The surgical team included Panathinaikos doctor Haris Lalos, orthopedic surgeon Nicolas Lefebvre, and Christophe Bondou, a consultant for Paris Saint-Germain and medical staff member for the Moroccan national team. Following the procedure, Moroccan national team player Achraf Hakimi visited Ounahi in the hospital to offer support. Ounahi is scheduled to begin a specialized rehabilitation program on October 30. His recovery is now estimated to take between four and five months. If rehabilitation proceeds without complications, the 26-year-old Moroccan international is expected to return to competitive action between late February and late March 2027, which would potentially make him available for the Super League playoffs. To compensate for the loss of their most expensive summer signing, coach Jakob Nielsen is implementing a new tactical approach. Rather than seeking a direct replacement, Nielsen is utilizing Andreas Tetis in a ‘false ten’ role behind Cyril Deser. This partnership has shown effectiveness in recent matches against Kairat Almaty and Volos, as Tetis’s ability to link play and provide vertical passes has helped maintain the team's offensive threat.
