Community and commercial efforts are facilitating back-to-school preparations through various supply distributions and safety measures. In Calgary, organizations such as the Owen Hart Foundation and CCIS are hosting giveaways for backpacks and school supplies to reduce financial pressure on families. Similarly, the KIDS EXPO 2026 international exhibition is hosting a school fair to centralize the purchase of uniforms and stationery. In Toronto, the Children’s Breakfast Clubs distributed over 4,000 backpacks, an increase from the 2,000 provided the previous year. To support this, the province is providing $5 million in capital funding for renovations, $20 million for operating costs over the next three years, and $2 million for startup costs including staff training and equipment. Regional updates include the addition of 183 spaces in Nanaimo-Ladysmith, 73 spaces in Vernon and Coldstream, and new spaces in the East Kootenay region at schools in Cranbrook and Invermere.
