Baden-Württemberg garden equipment noise rules

In late July 2026 the Baden‑Württemberg Ministry of Transport enacted the Device and Machine Noise Protection Ordinance (32 BImSchV), setting quiet‑hour limits for noisy garden equipment. Use of lawn mowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws and similar tools is prohibited all day on Sundays and public holidays, and limited to 07:00‑20:00 on weekdays, with operation allowed only on dry ground. For the loudest devices (leaf blowers, trimmers, free‑cutters, leaf collectors) the ordinance further restricts use to 09:00‑13:00 and 15:00‑17:00, unless the machine bears a communal environmental label that grants an exemption. The rules apply in residential zones, small settlements, recreation areas, spa and clinic districts, tourist accommodations, hospitals and care facilities.

A week later the ministry issued consumer advice on robot lawn mowers, recommending summer cutting heights of 5‑7 cm, monitoring soil moisture and avoiding mowing during heat spikes. Early August coverage of discounted battery‑powered trimmers and robot mowers reiterated the same operating windows, added plant‑care tips for powdery mildew and lavender pruning, and warned users to set appropriate mower heights in hot, dry conditions.
