The International Workplace Group (IWG) released its fourth annual ‘Work from Anywhere Index’ for 2026, identifying Bangkok as the world’s top destination for ‘workations’. The ranking evaluates cities based on criteria including internet speed, climate, accommodation and transport costs, cultural richness, and the availability of coworking spaces. Tokyo and Barcelona were ranked second and third, respectively. Other cities in the top ten include Porto, Vancouver, Budapest, Naples, Medellín, Lisbon, and Seoul. Within the global top 50, French cities such as Montpellier (16th), Paris (33rd), and Biarritz (40th) were also noted. Mumbai debuted as the only Indian city in the index, achieving a score of 77 and outperforming cities like London and Miami. While Mumbai showed strengths in transport affordability, climate, and accommodation, it received lower scores for broadband speed and local event availability. Complementary data from Cushman & Wakefield indicates that India leads the world in flexible workspace maturity, with its flexible office inventory projected to exceed 100 million square feet in 2026. Research accompanying the index indicates a sustained interest in flexible working models. Data shows that 90% of remote workers report improved work-life balance and 80% claim increased productivity.
