Discussions between Gor and Rahman focused on expanding U.S. involvement in the IT and agricultural sectors, as well as urging Bangladesh to join the U.S.-led Pax Silica initiative to secure supply chains for semiconductors, AI infrastructure, and critical minerals. Both nations also agreed to cooperate on health-sector testing regarding the Rohingya crisis. Simultaneously, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met with Prime Minister Rahman to address recent bilateral friction caused by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s virtual media appearance from New Delhi. Rahman emphasized the necessity of a “conducive environment” for bilateral relations and urged India to expedite Hasina’s extradition. India responded that it is examining the request through legal procedures and denied involvement in her media appearance. During these discussions, India reaffirmed its invitation for Rahman to attend the 18th BRICS Summit outreach session in New Delhi this September in his capacity as Chair of BIMSTEC. Following these meetings, As of mid-August, government sources indicate that Prime Minister Rahman may visit India as early as next week for bilateral engagement. If the trip proceeds, it would mark his first official visit to India since assuming office. While preparations are reportedly underway in both capitals, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam clarified maintains that no date the visit has not yet been set for Prime Minister Rahman’s upcoming visit to India, finalized, noting he is currently occupied with domestic matters. Any international travel, including potential trips to India or Japan, will be finalized through subsequent discussions with that timing depends on the respective countries.
