Bank Indonesia (BI) maintained its benchmark BI Rate at 5.75% following a Board of Governors' meeting on August 18–19, 2026. Acting Governor Destry Damayanti stated the decision aims to reinforce rupiah stability amid global volatility and keep inflation anchored near the government's target range of 2.5% plus or minus 1%. The decision also kept the deposit facility rate at 4.75% and the lending facility rate at 6.5%. To bolster foreign exchange supplies and liquidity, BI is expanding hedging swap incentives. A 12.5% premium reduction is now available for transactions involving bank foreign loans and foreign direct investment (FDI), supplementing existing incentives for portfolio inflows. Additionally, base money (M0) grew by 18.3% year-on-year in July 2026. In the equity markets, the Indonesia Composite Index (IHSG) rose 1.68% to reach the 6,501 level on August 20, 2026, driven by commodity and mining stocks. Foreign investors recorded a net buy of Rp680.5 billion. Meanwhile, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) announced plans to lower the minimum stock price from Rp50 to Rp1, effective September 7, 2026, to improve liquidity and price discovery. To strengthen the national gold market ecosystem, the Indonesia Bullion Market Association (IBMA) was officially launched. This supports government efforts to tap into an estimated 1,800 tons of public physical gold holdings through a bullion bank ecosystem. BI continues to monitor potential inflationary pressures from the El Nino phenomenon through October 2026.
