Barbados is experiencing a significant expansion in international air connectivity through new and increased services from various global carriers. In late September 2026, Air Canada announced the introduction of year-round weekly service between Montréal and Bridgetown for the 2026/27 winter season. Concurrently, British Airways initiated its largest expansion to the island, adding year-round service from London Gatwick and increasing capacity from Heathrow. This expansion is expected to add over 120,000 seats annually. Further details regarding the British Airways expansion indicate that starting October 25, 2026, the airline will introduce a new daily service from London Gatwick to Grantley Adams International Airport. During the winter 2026/27 season, the airline plans to operate three daily direct flights from the United Kingdom. The Gatwick service will function as a shared route with Guyana, Tobago, or Grenada on six days of the week, with dedicated Barbados flights on Wednesdays. By the summer 2027 season, the airline expects to provide its first-ever double-daily service to the island, representing a more than 100% increase in capacity for that period. Barbados Tourism officials noted the move will improve accessibility for travelers from the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. By mid-October 2026, Air Peace confirmed scheduled operations from Lagos to Barbados, running twice monthly. While physical goods trade between Barbados and Africa remains low, officials are focusing on leveraging this connectivity to grow service-based sectors such as fintech, artificial intelligence, and digital services.
