Barretos Queima do Alho competition

The 71st Festa do Peão de Barretos, held from 20–30 August 2026, featured the Queima do Alho competition, a contest reviving the culinary practices of historic cattle-driving comitivas. On 23 August, the Comitiva Boa Sorte from Ubirajara (SP) won the competition at the Rancho Ponto de Pouso. The winning menu included arroz carreteiro, feijão gordo, paçoca de carne, and meat prepared on a griddle. Winning commissioner Adão Luiz de Carvalho highlighted the importance of tradition in the process. Comitiva Viajando por Mato Grosso secured second place, while Comitiva Nossa Sr.ª da Aparecida from Barretos took third. Coordinator João Paulo Martins noted that the event drew approximately 3,500 spectators.

As part of the broader festival, a charitable entry was offered on 24 August, requiring a one-kilogram donation of non-perishable food to support local assistance institutions. The festival also included musical performances by Jads & Jadson, Felipe & Rodrigo, and Turma do Pagode, a missa sertaneja, the final of the Liga Nacional de Rodeio, and a large commercial fair.
