Following a 17-6 loss to TCU, Baylor Bears head coach Dave Aranda publicly took responsibility for the team’s offensive struggles, specifically citing failures in pass protection and run blocking by the offensive line. After a subsequent 25-24 defeat to Kansas, which brought the team's record to 4-3, Baylor University fired Aranda during his seventh season. Athletic Director Doug McNamee released a statement describing Aranda as a “gifted coach and a brilliant football mind,” but noted that a change in leadership was necessary for the program. Aranda concludes his tenure in Waco with a 40-40 overall record, a tenure highlighted by a 12-2 season and a Sugar Bowl victory in 2021, though followed by several losing seasons. At the time of his dismissal, the team held a 2-2 record in Big 12 conference play. Defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman has been named interim head coach. The program is currently evaluating potential permanent replacements as the team prepares for its upcoming matchup against UCF. UCF on October 30.
