BBVA has initiated a large-scale transition toward ‘intelligence-based banking’ through significant investments in artificial intelligence and data infrastructure. The process began with the launch of the ‘BBVA Bilbao AI Transformation Hub’ in Spain, a center designed to coordinate over 150 specialists in data and advanced analytics. To support this, the bank collaborated with Amazon Web Services to implement a new MLOps architecture within its global data platform, ADA. This architecture aims to industrialize the machine learning lifecycle, with pilot programs reportedly reducing development times by up to 75%. As the initiative expanded, BBVA moved toward scaling these capabilities across its entire global group. The bank is now group, leveraging a workforce of more than 4,000 data specialists. The bank is now scaling its strategy through a new framework called ‘The Frame’, which is designed to create, deploy, and govern AI agents to drive a customer-centric transformation. President Carlos Torres Vila stated that AI offers an ‘exceptional opportunity to create value for customers, employees, and shareholders’, aiming to replicate the success of the bank’s previous digital transformation. Early results from this scaling these efforts include the deployment of voice agents that have resolved nearly 90% of interactions in pilot programs, as well as programs and AI assistants used to that already filter more than half of manager conversations in Spain. While Deutsche Bank has noted the potential for improved efficiency and commercial capabilities, it emphasizes that real gains require organized data and human supervision.
