B.C. Greens Leader Emily Lowan launched a new economic platform in Vancouver centered on four pillars: strengthening regional economies, providing clean power, increasing local value creation, and implementing taxes on large corporations and the ultrawealthy. The platform seeks to prioritize British Columbians over multinational corporations by simplifying small business processes and bolstering domestic supply chains. Following the platform launch, incoming Vancouver Mayor Pete Fry endorsed Lowan. Fry, who secured 47.78% of the vote to defeat incumbent Ken Sim, participated in door-knocking efforts in Sidney to support Lowan’s campaign for the Saanich North and the Islands riding. This riding has been held by the Green Party since 2017. Fry’s endorsement comes amid significant shifts in Vancouver’s municipal government. While the ABC Vancouver party saw its influence reduced on the council and was wiped out in the School Board and Park Board elections, COPE and the Greens successfully elected multiple councillors. Additionally, Fry addressed speculation regarding his political affiliations, clarifying that a recent appearance with NDP Leader David Eby was to support a pro-Canada rally rather than to endorse the NDP. Recently, Lowan responded to accusations from the B.C. NDP regarding potential legislative partnerships. The dispute followed Lowan’s comment that she could not rule out supporting a Conservative minority government, despite noting serious concerns. Lowan issued a statement asserting that a Conservative government would be “disastrous for this province,” arguing their policies would lead to rising debt and cuts to healthcare and childcare. She pledged the B.C. Greens would oppose any “austerity and culture war agenda.”
