The driver faces a $368 fine and a seven-day vehicle impoundment, with insurance costs expected to exceed $2,000. Notably, the driver’s passenger had reportedly just lost their own vehicle to a similar impoundment for excessive speeding. This incident occurred during a broader Labour Day enforcement effort where BC Highway Patrol issued 21 excessive speeding impoundments along the Sea to Sky Highway. On September 9, 2026, authorities reported a separate incident in North Vancouver involving a young male, aged 14 to 18, who fled on an electric motorcycle after running a stop sign on Grand Boulevard. Sgt. Michael McLaughlin noted an increase in young riders attempting to “bait police into pursuits” using electric motorcycles that often lack signal lights or pedals.
