Belmont Park renovation and reopening

Overview

Belmont Park is scheduled to reopen for its first live racing season since spring 2023 following a three-year, multi-million dollar renovation project. The development, supported by $455 million from New York State and $100 million from the New York Racing Association (NYRA), includes a modernized four-course layout featuring a signature 1.5-mile dirt track, two turf courses, and a new one-mile Tapeta all-weather inner track.

In addition to track improvements, NYRA upgraded backstretch facilities to enhance the quality of life for on-site workers, including new barns, dormitories, a gymnasium, and enhanced security systems.

The reopening program is headlined by the $1 million, Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, which serves as a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” race for the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
