Belo Horizonte street cleaner murder case

Overview

A legal case is ongoing regarding the 2025 murder of street cleaner Laudemir de Souza Fernandes in Belo Horizonte. The incident, which occurred following a dispute over traffic delays, led to charges against businessman Renê da Silva Nogueira Júnior for qualified homicide, threats, illegal possession of a firearm, and procedural fraud.

Nogueira Júnior remains in Caeté Prison, though a trial date has not yet been established. The investigation revealed that the weapon used in the crime belonged to his wife, Ana Paula Lamego Balbino, a Civil Police delegate. Balbino has been indicted for prevarication and illegal possession of a firearm and is currently facing an administrative disciplinary process.

In response to the tragedy, the victim’s widow, Liliane França da Silva, has launched a support project for urban cleaning workers and announced her candidacy for federal deputy.
