Officials in fire protection and first aid had cautioned they were understaffed and unable to handle multiple simultaneous emergencies during the high-volume summer season.

In response to the disruption, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has petitioned the Likud party to terminate Idan’s membership, alleging he led an “illegal shutdown” intended to harm government officials, including the Transportation Minister. The IAA is also reportedly considering termination proceedings against Idan.
