Police in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, are investigating the murder of a 17-year-old ~~boy,~~ Rehan, which investigators believe was driven by a viral social media hoax. Initial reports indicated that five individuals, including three minors, were arrested in connection with a suspected organ trafficking conspiracy. Authorities alleged that a mastermind, Zoheb Khan, posed as a doctor to lure accomplices with promises of earning between 1.20 crore and 2 crore rupees by harvesting organs. The victim was reportedly lured away under the pretext of resolving a dispute for 100 rupees, after which he was killed and his body was found near a lake. Subsequent investigation details clarified that the crime was motivated by an Instagram reel claiming human testicles could be sold for as much as Rs 1.20 crore. Police arrested 20-year-old BBA student Zoheb Khan and 18-year-old Aamir Qureshi, while detaining three minors. Investigators confirmed there is no legitimate market for such organs and found no medical evidence to support the claims made in the viral video. Newer details from the investigation indicate the suspects believed the organs could be sold in Gulf countries for approximately 12 million Indian rupees. Authorities allege that Khan, acting as the mastermind, recruited the group and directed the crime via video call, even purchasing medical equipment online to prepare the others. Following the stabbing of the victim, a street vendor, the suspects reportedly kept the organs on ice for two days while searching for a buyer. After failing to find one, Khan allegedly instructed the group to dispose of the organs in various lakes. Rehan’s body was discovered in Lower Lake on August 10.
