The historic Parisian department store BHV Marais, including its Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville and Parly 2 locations, has officially entered court-ordered reorganization (redressement judiciaire). The decision was issued by the Paris Economic Activities Tribunal on November 2. This legal procedure initiates an observation period of six months, which may be renewed for an additional six months. During this time, the court will determine if the company, SEGM BHV, can be saved through a recovery plan, sold to a new owner, or if it must undergo liquidation. The retailer currently employs approximately 700 people. The company continues to face significant financial turbulence, which management attributes to cash flow issues arising from a dispute with the building owner, the Canadian fund Brookfield. While Brookfield has contested these claims, BHV leadership stated that court protection should facilitate necessary discussions with the landlord. Recent reports indicate BHV reported a net loss of 1.85 million euros on revenues of 170.3 million euros. Despite the insolvency proceedings and previous concerns regarding unpaid social security contributions and building safety, the stores remain open.
