To clarify the program’s status, officials announced an expansion of the scheme through increased budgetary allocations and a restructured disbursement process. Under the updated model, the Bihar State Education Finance Corporation will provide loans up to Rs 2 lakh, while loans between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 4 lakh will be managed through scheduled commercial banks.

Furthermore, the scheme has been integrated with the PM VidyaLakshmi Portal and the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana, which enables students to access higher funding amounts of up to Rs 10 lakh. For the 2026-27 financial year, the government approved an expenditure of Rs 950 crore, representing a Rs 64 crore increase over the previous year. The scheme, originally established in 2016, has been extended through the 2030-31 period.
