The Bihar state government has initiated a plan to recruit teachers through the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) to address shortages across primary and secondary school levels. Following significant pressure from student protesters in Patna—who conducted hunger strikes to demand transparency and timely notifications—the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) released the official notification for the fourth phase of the recruitment drive. In response to widespread demonstrations, including an indefinite sit-in at Gardanibagh and protests by music teacher aspirants, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary confirmed a major shift: the TRE-4 recruitment will now consist of a single-stage examination rather than separate preliminary and mains exams. To address broader grievances, the government is forming an expert committee led by a Patna High Court judge to suggest examination improvements and has launched a ‘Student Support Portal’ and ‘Student Support Camps’ to resolve candidate issues within 30 days. The BPSC has officially launched the online application process for the TRE 4.0 recruitment drive. While initial figures focused on 32,388 positions, a revised supplementary requisition from the General Administration Department has since increased the total number of vacancies to 33,320. This addition includes 493 posts for secondary schools and 439 posts for higher secondary schools, covering subjects such as Bengali, Fine Arts, Dance, Maithili, Pali, Prakrit, Arabic, Persian, and Music. Online applications and fee payments commenced on September 25, 2026. Candidates are required to complete fee payments by October 25, 2026, with the final application deadline set for October 26, 2026. Eligibility requires specific CTET, BTET, or STET certifications depending on the grade level. The official examination date has not yet been announced. Following a recommendation from the Education Department, the BPSC has extended the application deadline.
