Bitwise Asset Management has officially launched the Bitwise NEAR ETF (ticker: NRR) on NYSE Arca, marking the first US spot exchange-traded product for the NEAR Protocol. The fund allows investors to gain exposure to NEAR tokens via traditional brokerage accounts, removing the requirement for private keys or specialized crypto exchanges. A central feature of the NRR ETF is its staking mechanism. Bitwise intends to stake a significant portion of the fund’s holdings, potentially up to 100%. While staking rewards average approximately 5% annually, Bitwise will retain roughly 33% of these rewards to cover staking-related expenses, passing the remaining 67% to shareholders through the fund’s net asset value (NAV). The launch follows a period of market momentum for NEAR, which has positioned itself as infrastructure for the emerging AI-agent economy. Bitwise leadership highlighted that the protocol sits at the intersection of AI and crypto, noting the high transaction volume of NEAR Intents as a primary driver. Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan emphasized that AI agents will require the “fast, trustworthy settlement infrastructure” that NEAR provides. Recent data indicates NEAR Intents transaction volumes have grown from under $1 billion a year ago to over $32 billion. The fund carries an annual management fee of 0.75%, with Coinbase Custody serving as the token custodian and BNY Mellon managing cash operations and administration. Following its launch, the NRR ETF saw approximately $35.99 million in net inflows during its first session, bringing total assets to roughly $36.5 million. While the ETF listing initially boosted NEAR’s price toward the $5.10–$5.57 range, the asset has recently faced resistance and price declines. Recently, the NEAR ecosystem faced a setback when NEAR Intents, a cross-chain infrastructure protocol, suffered a $3.8 million exploit.
