Following the announcement of Diablo V at BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment has clarified the support lifecycle for Diablo IV. While the franchise shifts focus toward the spring 2029 release of Diablo V—which is expected to be set 100 years after the events of the fourth game—Game Director Brent Gibson confirmed that Diablo IV will continue to receive seasonal updates as long as there is sufficient community engagement. Gibson emphasized that the franchise operates as a “living universe” rather than a series of replaceable ~~titles, intending to mirror the long-term support provided to Diablo II and III.~~ titles. Although major story expansions for Diablo IV will cease after the ‘Lord of Hatred’ release, significant content remains on the roadmap, such as the introduction of the Amazon class in the first half of 2027. Blizzard has also announced the ‘Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection’ for Nintendo Switch ~~2, which will bundle the base game with the ‘Vessel of Hatred’~~ 2 and ~~‘Lord of Hatred’ expansions. Additionally, Blizzard~~ is collaborating with Netflix to produce an animated series based on the Diablo universe. Regarding the upcoming sequel, Director Joe Shely has indicated a potential shift in gameplay direction for Diablo V, prioritizing character builds and equipment over ~~the~~ high-action ~~combat of Diablo IV.~~ combat. Blizzard has officially commenced cinematic production for Diablo V, with cinematic director Neil David Carter confirming the use of motion capture. Senior producer Tiffany Watt noted that the title will utilize a modified version of the Diablo IV engine and may feature procedurally generated maps. ~~However, industry~~ Industry experts remain skeptical of the spring 2029 release window, noting it would represent a much shorter gap between installments than the previous eleven-year interval.
