BMW is implementing significant updates to its flagship 7 Series lineup, involving both the ALPINA luxury marque and the core BMW brand. BMW ALPINA has confirmed the development of a recalibrated V8 engine for the upcoming G72 flagship, which will serve as the brand’s first V8 powertrain under its new status as an independent luxury marque. This model aims to compete with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class by prioritizing “exhilarating performance, delivered with supreme composure” through low-end torque and effortless cruising. Simultaneously, the standard 7 Series is transitioning to the Neue Klasse architecture. This update encompasses both internal combustion engine models and the electric i7. The electric i7 variants include the 50 xDrive, 60 xDrive, and M70 xDrive, featuring an improved 112.5 kWh battery with a range exceeding 700 kilometers. Technological additions for the new generation include price-controlled charging and a Panoramic Vision Display located under the windshield. BMW is expanding the application of the Neue Klasse architecture across multiple vehicle segments. This expansion includes the high-performance iX3 M60 xDrive SUV, which utilizes a dual-motor setup delivering 612 hp and 875 Nm of torque. New additions to the electric lineup include the iX4 SUV coupe, offering a range of up to 828 km in certain configurations, and the iX5. The iX5 features a 144 kWh battery, has demonstrated peak charging rates of up to 464 kW in real-world tests, and is expected to achieve an estimated EPA range of approximately 724 km. Additionally, the X3 M50 xDrive will see a power increase to 437 hp for the 2027 model year. Further developments include the testing of the iX7, a large three-row electric model, alongside the combustion-powered X7 M60 at the Nürburgring. In Japan, a new xDrive40d Black Line grade has been launched for the X7.
