The middleweight matchup between Bo Nickal and Joe Pyfer was initially announced as part of the UFC 335 card, scheduled for December 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Following this announcement, the bout was rescheduled. Nickal confirmed during a political rally in Oxford, Ohio, that the fight will now serve as the headlining match for a UFC event in Cleveland in February. Regarding the change, Nickal stated, “I got a call backstage... My fight in December; it actually got moved to February, where I’m going to be main eventing in Cleveland.” The matchup features two top-ranked middleweights: Nickal, who holds a 6–1 UFC record, and Pyfer, who holds a 7–1 UFC record following a victory over Israel Adesanya. Recent developments have seen rising tensions between the fighters. Nickal suggested the fight might be delayed until 2027 and dismissed Pyfer’s social media criticisms on The Ariel Helwani Show, suggesting Pyfer may be creating an underdog narrative. Pyfer has responded by accusing Nickal of creating a ‘fake narrative’ and threatening to ‘take your fake dreams away.’
