Boeing and Airbus production emphasis

At the Farnborough International Airshow on 19 July, Boeing’s commercial chief Stephanie Pope stressed that ramping up output of the 737 and 787 families was the company’s immediate priority, aiming to lift 737 MAX production to 47‑52 units per month as part of its financial recovery. CEO Kelly Ortberg added that a new narrow‑body program would wait for better finances, mature technology and sufficient market demand, while noting Airbus’s plan for a new single‑aisle model around 2030.

A week later, both Boeing and Airbus CEOs reiterated the same focus. Ortberg said Boeing still needed “a few more years” before launching a new narrow‑body, emphasizing airline pressure for improved reliability and higher delivery rates. Airbus chief Guillaume Faury outlined a development timeline for the next‑generation A320 family, targeting a 2030 start and service entry in the late 2030s. Both manufacturers agreed that delivering aircraft already on order and stabilising current production outweigh any near‑term new‑jet programs.

Together, the statements show a coordinated industry stance: prioritising existing order fulfillment and production scaling while postponing new‑generation aircraft until the late 2020s or early 2030s.
