Efforts to advance infrastructure and mobility in Bogotá have progressed through both legislative coordination and regulatory approvals. In late July 2026, Bogotá Council Finance Commission president Rolando González proposed the creation of a permanent “mesa Nación-Distrito” to the president-elect. This initiative seeks to coordinate the 2027 budget to secure funding for ten strategic projects, including Metro lines, Regiotram, and various utility and hospital expansions. Concurrently, utility upgrades on Avenida de las Américas were scheduled to begin to improve local services. By late August 2026, progress was noted in the southwest of the city, where authorities granted environmental licenses and permits for a major mobility project that had been delayed for approximately 30 years. This project aims to serve the Bosa, Kennedy, and Ciudad Bolívar localities through the construction of new road axes, bridges, and bicycle lanes, alongside ecological compensation measures. During the same period, data from the Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (IDU) highlighted significant management challenges, revealing that 22% of the road network is in “poor or failed condition,” with Los Mártires and Usme being the most affected areas. Addressing this deterioration is estimated to require an investment of approximately 12.33 trillion pesos. To improve enforcement, the city is implementing new ‘Salvavidas’ traffic cameras along major corridors, including Avenida Las Américas, Avenida NQS, and Avenida El Dorado, to detect speeding and other infractions.
