Bolivia subnational budget allocations 2026

In July 2026 Bolivia’s Plurinational Assembly approved a 2026 General State Budget that earmarked roughly 2.5 billion bolivianos for sub‑national entities, including 1.4 bn for governorships, 600 m for municipalities and 410 m for state universities. The budget was framed by the removal of fuel subsidies, which generated a fiscal surplus and an expected IMF loan of about $1.9 bn.

A few days later, on 4 August 2026, the legislature passed a law to redistribute part of that surplus, directing an additional 2.2 billion bolivianos to municipalities. Specific allocations were announced for Tarija (31 m bolivianos), the province of Cercado (31 m) and smaller amounts for other localities such as El Puente. The measure aimed to strengthen municipal budgets for projects, operations and public services, continuing the government’s effort to channel surplus funds to sub‑national governments.

Together, the two actions show a rapid rollout of fiscal resources from the central budget to local authorities in Bolivia during mid‑2026.
