Bolivian regional infrastructure development

Overview

Bolivia is progressing with several regional infrastructure and transportation initiatives intended to enhance economic integration and connectivity.

In the Beni department, the Legislative Assembly is pursuing funding for the bioceanic corridor. This includes constructing a 1,185-meter main bridge and a 540-meter bridge in the Varador sector over the Mamoré River, alongside 13.5 kilometers of two-lane highway to replace more costly fluvial transport. In La Paz, Governor Luis Revilla has announced road improvements for the Malla municipality, including a 30 million boliviano investment for the Caxata–Rodeo–Cairoma–Araca highway and the reconstruction of the Hichuraya vehicular bridge. Additionally, the San Andrés de Machaca municipality is slated for multiple road projects through 2027, including the San Andrés de Machaca–Nazacara–Hito 40 highway and the Queto–Kerani–Jerusalén–Hito 27 project.

In Oruro, technical inspections are underway for the 150-kilometer Lago Poopó Tourist Circuit to integrate the route into the Fundamental Road Network, supporting sustainable tourism and commercial access to Pacific ports.

In Cochabamba, Mayor Manfred Reyes Villa has proposed a strategic plan to transform the region into a central hub for economic integration. The proposal focuses on connecting the highlands, valleys, and lowlands by improving the road network to major ports, modernizing aviation, reactivating the national railway, and developing river highways for cargo transport.
