Bollywood industry figures have increasingly confronted paparazzi regarding the practice of taking intrusive ‘back shots’ or ‘hip shots’ of actresses. In late September, filmmaker Farah Khan intervened during a Mumbai appearance when photographers attempted to capture such angles, citing a previous warning from Salman Khan against the practice. By early October, veteran actress Neetu Kapoor also criticized photographers for requesting images of her back while she approached her vehicle, responding sarcastically to their fascination with such angles. This follows similar protests from actress Neha Dhupia, who labeled the behavior disrespectful. Salman Khan has since escalated his stance, addressing the issue on the television program Bigg Boss 20. Khan emphasized the importance of personal boundaries and consent, distinguishing between celebrities who may invite such photography and those who find it objectionable. He issued a direct warning to photographers, stating, ‘Those who want it, go ahead and do it, brother. Don’t touch the ones who don’t want it.’ Khan, who previously described the practice as ‘disgusting,’ indicated that his prior attempts to address the behavior were often ignored and suggested that stricter actions may be taken against those who continue to disregard the expressed discomfort of individuals. Actress Neha Dhupia has publicly supported Khan’s stance, praising his efforts to highlight the necessity of consent and dignity in celebrity media coverage. More recently, actresses Vedika Pinto and Janhvi Kapoor have raised concerns regarding the intensity of paparazzi attention. Pinto reported that photographers have begun tracking her personal routines, such as gym timings. Kapoor held a private meeting with photographers to address the continuous recording of her gym appearances, noting that such footage often attracts vulgar social media comments. Following the discussion, photographers reportedly agreed to respect her boundaries.
