Security agencies in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region have been placed on high alert following a series of threatening emails. On October 21, 2026, authorities received a message targeting the Bhayandar Railway Station and Bhayandar Police Station. The email, sent under the name ‘Vaishali Rumde 9802’, alleged the involvement of specific individuals in a murder and claimed an explosive device had been brought from the United States. On October 23, 2026, a new wave of threats emerged targeting the office of Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tavde, actor Amitabh Bachchan’s residence, and a Diljit Dosanjh concert. These subsequent emails allegedly claimed affiliation with the ‘Khalistan National Army’ and included references to Operation Blue Star. Specific threats included a bomb explosion at the Mayor’s office at 3:11 PM and a grenade attack on a school on October 31. Additionally, the residence ‘Jalsa’ was named as a target between October 31 and November 27, while a suicide attack was threatened during Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse on November 27. On October 25, 2026, reports indicated that an individual identifying as ‘Smith Johnson’ sent an email to Mumbai’s civic body warning of a grenade attack on Bachchan’s residence on October 31 and a suicide attack at Dosanjh’s concert on November 27. These threats have coincided with political tensions, as the separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) criticized Dosanjh following his appearance on Bachchan’s television show. While some Sikh organizations have historically accused Bachchan of involvement in the 1984 violence, he has consistently denied these allegations. While initial searches by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and other authorities found nothing suspicious, security has been increased at schools, racecourses, and the targeted residences as investigators from the Mumbai Police and cyber cell work to identify the senders.
