Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum leadership and reconstruction efforts recogni

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has received multiple leadership recognitions for his administration’s efforts in reconstruction and regional stability. In late September 2026, Zulum was honored with the Quintessence Pan-African Top Leadership Award in New Jersey. During his acceptance speech, he dedicated the award to the people of Borno and emphasized that leadership should focus on “building ladders of opportunity so everyone can climb.” He noted his administration’s work in rebuilding infrastructure, including over 30,000 homes, schools, and clinics, following the Boko Haram insurgency. Shortly thereafter, Zulum hosted the 13th regular meeting of the North East Governors’ Forum in Maiduguri, bringing together governors from Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe to discuss security and socioeconomic development. Additionally, the Kirawa community in Gwoza Local Government Area presented him with a Good Leadership Award in recognition of efforts to resettle residents and rebuild the border town. The state government has also announced plans to rehabilitate and fence schools in Kirawa and other Gwoza communities to improve security and education.
