The Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior has established a new Helicopter Unit with the acquisition of a Bell 412EPX helicopter, valued at 30.3 million KM. The aircraft is intended for police interventions, search-and-rescue, medical evacuations, and firefighting, with the capacity to assist throughout Bosnia-Herzegovina and internationally. Following this acquisition, Federal Minister of Internal Affairs Ramo Isak called for a broader expansion of aerial police capacity across the country. He proposed that each of the ten cantons possess at least one helicopter and that the Federal Police Administration (FUP) maintain two or three. Isak noted that while security coordination remains intact despite recent jurisdictional tensions, increasing these technical assets is necessary for operations such as firefighting and medical transport. The unit has now reached an operational milestone with the completion of training for its first generation of pilots. The group, which includes Adnan Salihagić, Kerim Habibović, Fuad Brčić, and Amir Bajrović, underwent two years of intensive instruction involving over 200 flight hours and training sessions in Montenegro and the United States. These pilots are trained as co-pilots for the Bell 412 EPX, focusing on the mental shift required for police aviation where tasks often arise suddenly and require immediate reaction without pre-planned routes.
