In June 2026 Bosnia and Herzegovina reported a record number of new car registrations, indicating a rapid growth in the domestic vehicle market. Following this surge, the The Ministry of Civil Affairs subsequently proposed amendments to the vehicle‑registration regulations to introduce distinctive licence‑plate markings for electric and hybrid vehicles. The suggested “special” plates would allow vehicles, allowing quick visual identification of low‑emission cars and could enable enabling targeted benefits such as access to low‑emission zones, preferential parking, and potential possible tax or fee reductions. The proposal, modeled after similar schemes in other European states, is set was referred to be reviewed by the Ministry of Communications and Transport for final approval. On 31 July 2026 the Ministry of Civil Affairs formally submitted the initiative to the Ministry of Communication and Traffic. Minister Dubravka Bošnjak announced that the draft would specify vehicle categories, plate design, issuance procedures and usage conditions, framing the change as the first step toward a systematic regulatory framework for electric and hybrid vehicles in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
