Boston Red Sox roster and lineup changes

The Boston Red Sox have undergone roster and lineup adjustments during recent games. Initially, the team demoted Mickey Gasper and Anthony Seigler to the minor leagues to facilitate the return of Roman Anthony and Trevor Story.

Following a 4-2 loss to the Texas Rangers, interim manager Chad Tracy implemented further changes to the starting lineup. This included sitting Jarren Duran and Mickey Gasper, while utilizing a heavy concentration of right-handed hitters to counter opposing left-handed pitching.

During a subsequent game against the Texas Rangers, first baseman Willson Contreras was forced to leave the game after being hit in the right hand by a pitch in the eighth inning. Contreras reported numbness and significant pain, noting the sensation felt similar to “previous fractures he has sustained in the same hand.”

While X-rays ruled out bone fractures, Contreras is suffering from a severe contusion and inflammation. The Red Sox have opted not to rush his return, excluding him from the starting lineup for the upcoming series against the Tampa Bay Rays. In his absence, the team has restructured the lineup with Nick Sogard at first base and Jahmai Jones moving to the designated hitter position. This injury occurs as the Red Sox approach a potential postseason berth.
