Botafogo is undergoing changes to its attacking roster. In late July 2026, the club transferred striker Elias Manoel to Mexico’s Club Tijuana on a free transfer, though Botafogo retained a percentage of any future sale. Manoel had struggled to secure a regular position at the club following his arrival from New York Red Bulls in early 2025. By late August 2026, the club officially announced the return of veteran striker Tiquinho Soares. The 35-year-old forward, who previously played for Botafogo from August 2022 until early 2025, arrived in Rio de Janeiro to finalize his contract after becoming a free agent following a legal rescission with Santos due to unpaid wages and image rights. Prior to his free agency, Soares had been on loan at Mirassol but left the team before the agreement concluded. To address financial constraints, the new deal is expected to run through the end of the 2026 season and features a lower salary than his previous tenure at the club. Reports indicate Soares accepted a salary reduction of over 80%, with monthly earnings expected to fall between R$ 100,000 and R$ 200,000. He has also agreed to renegotiate outstanding debts owed to him by the club's SAF. The move is intended as a short-term solution to bolster the attack for the final stretch of the season. While the contract includes a performance clause that could extend his stay until June 2027 if specific goal targets are met—specifically if he scores seven goals—the move may be viewed as a potential final chapter in Soares’ professional career. During his previous stint, Soares was a key contributor, notably scoring 29 goals in 2023 and participating in the club's Copa Libertadores and Brazilian Championship titles. In addition to the Soares signing, Botafogo is reportedly pursuing Luiz Henrique from Zenit.
