BP divests Austrian fuel stations
Entities: Melanie Milchram-Pinter · Richard Harding · BP · BP Retail Austria GmbH · Volenergy AG
Overview
In July 2026 BP announced that it will sell its entire Austrian downstream retail operation, consisting of about 250 service stations and the associated electric‑vehicle charging network, to the Swiss‑based Volenergy AG, a unit of the Volare Group. The transaction transfers full ownership of BP Retail Austria GmbH, including company‑owned sites, franchise locations and the related fleet business, as well as BP’s stakes in three Austrian joint ventures. BP will retain a brand‑licence agreement so the stations continue to operate under the BP name, and will keep its aviation (Air BP) and Castrol activities in the country. The deal, pending regulatory approval, is expected to close by the end of 2026. It is part of BP’s broader “simplification drive” that targets roughly $20 billion of divestments by 2027, aiming to cut costs, focus capital on core oil and gas operations and reduce net debt.
