Bradford Bulls injury crisis and league standing decline

The Bradford Bulls are navigating a severe injury crisis during their Super League campaign. Following a heavy defeat to the Warrington Wolves, where the team conceded 42 unanswered points, coach Kurt Haggerty described the situation as “unprecedented.” The loss dropped the Bulls to second-last in the standings. Key playmaker Jayden Nikorima has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a pulled quad, forcing players like Riley Dean, Zac Fulton, and Ryan Sutton to play out of position. Other concerns include a potential arm injury for Chris Atkin and head knocks sustained by Loghan Lewis and Andy Ackers.

After a subsequent 34-6 loss to the Wigan Warriors, the Bulls fell into last place. Haggerty reported that ten players have been ruled out for the season, attributing the struggles to the high injury rate and the club’s transition from a part-time to a full-time professional operation. He noted he would be “very disappointed” if the team finishes at the bottom of the table.

As the club looks toward the 2027 season, Haggerty has emphasized a need for toughness and aggression, citing new signing Ligi Sao as a key example of the leadership desired in the pack alongside recent signings Sam Eseh, James Bentley, and John Bateman. Regarding immediate squad depth, the Bulls recently named a 20-man squad for their match against the Castleford Tigers, one player short of the standard 21. The roster is bolstered by the return of Loghan Lewis from suspension, though injury management remains a priority.
