Brazil adopts new public service technologies

In mid‑July 2026 Brazil began rolling out pilot technology projects in its public infrastructure. Motiva installed autonomous cleaning robots on three stations of São Paulo’s Metro Line 5‑Lilás, cutting platform‑cleaning time dramatically and slashing water use. At the same time, the municipality of Rio Negro, Paraná, introduced multi‑temperature drinking‑fountain units that provide hot water for traditional beverages, featuring safety mechanisms and LED advertising panels.

By early August, the focus expanded to the sanitation sector. The Technical Innovation Chamber of the Brazilian Association of State Water Companies (Aesbe) announced a partnership with the Inter‑American Development Bank to apply the AquaRating methodology for digital‑diagnostic assessments of water utilities, aiming to map innovation maturity across state, municipal and private operators. In parallel, Carioca Engenharia received an award for a drone‑based photogrammetry system that creates high‑resolution 3‑D models and digital twins of wastewater treatment plants, improving monitoring and long‑term asset management.

Together, these initiatives illustrate a broader national push to modernise public services through automation, digital diagnostics and drone technology, targeting greater efficiency, sustainability and service quality across transport, water supply and sanitation.
