Brazil has expanded its network of Blue Flag (Bandeira Azul) certified destinations for the 2026/2027 season, reaching a total of 75 locations, including 63 beaches and 12 marinas across seven states. This represents a 25% increase in certified sites. Santa Catarina holds the highest number of certifications with 38 locations, locations (33 beaches and five marinas), followed by Rio de Janeiro with 20, Bahia with 7, São Paulo with 5, and Alagoas with 3. Ceará and Paraná each have one certified site. The certification, coordinated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), evaluates criteria such as water quality, environmental management, safety, infrastructure, and education. In Rio de Janeiro, the state maintains the second-largest network in Brazil, with new additions in the Lagos Region including Praia das Caravelas, Praia do Pontal, and Praia de Gravatá. In Niterói, Praia do Sossego has maintained its certification for six consecutive years. In Bahia, the Camaçari region, specifically Guarajuba and Itacimirim, has become a leader in sustainable tourism with four certified locations. Additionally, Praia de Santo Antônio in Mata de São João was among the sites receiving the award in Bahia. The final selections are determined by an international panel of experts from organizations including UN Tourism, UNESCO, and UNEP. A national award ceremony is planned for November 6 in Florianópolis.
