In Brazil, efforts to facilitate debt negotiation involve both private sector initiatives and legal frameworks. Serasa launched the ‘Todo Mundo Ama Cupons’ campaign, offering over 80 million discount coupons through its Serasa Limpa Nome platform. Complementing these private efforts, Brazilian legislation, including the ‘Lei do Nome Limpo’, provides legal mechanisms for debt restructuring to protect consumers from abusive collection practices. Expanding on these initiatives, Serasa is conducting a renegotiation campaign in partnership with Mercado Pago and over 2,000 companies. Titled ‘Todo Mundo Ama Cupom em Dobro’, the campaign offers discounts of up to 99% on outstanding debts and is scheduled to conclude on September 9. Nationally, the program covers approximately 8.7 million debts, with more than 1.6 million consumers eligible for the maximum 99% discount. The campaign covers sectors such as banking, retail, and essential services like water, electricity, and gas, while also offering extra coupons worth up to R$ 500 for use on Mercado Livre. Simultaneously, regional consumer protection agencies (Procon) are organizing local settlement events. In Natal, a three-day fair is facilitating direct negotiations at Shopping Estação, while in Arraial do Cabo, a state-led initiative allows residents to negotiate with utility and telecommunications providers in person or via WhatsApp. In Mato Grosso, Procon representatives are meeting in Primavera do Leste to discuss consumer defense strategies, specifically addressing the challenges of over-indebtedness and the impact of online betting on mental health. These efforts occur as Serasa reports approximately 83.9 million people in Brazil are currently in debt. Following the Serasa initiative, the financial institution Inter has launched its own campaign, ‘Mutirão Resolva Agora’. Running until September 30, this program offers discounts of up to 98% on various products, including credit cards, overdrafts, payroll loans, real estate credit, and digital credit.
